Douz - Tozeur Regions
Do you think you know the desert? How well do you know Tozeur and the Djerid region? No matter what your answer is, we will show you on this trip great hidden gems that you never knew they existed.
From a night in the Sahar desert, to discovering misknown canyons and the local food of the region, this 3-day trip will help you learn more about the heritage of the Tunisian desert.
Ready? Let's start:
We will depart from Tunis in a carpooling mode (so if you have a car, write us and you will get a discount on the experience price).
Once we arrive to our first stop near Douz to have a walk in a misknown oasis and learn about the dates, one of the most important agriculture activities in the south of Tunisia. We will make a tour with the owner to discover how they grow and what we can benefit from them. Dates are so valued in Tunisia and a lot of local products worth trying are based on dates.
Our second stop will be a starting point to enter the desert and spend a night there with the locals. We will ride camels and the locals will take care of everything (tents, food and logistics). You will just enjoy your time in the calm and a special sky!
After waking up in the desert and having a traditional breakfast, we will ride back the camels to our starting point of yesterday. From there we will head to Tozeur. We will check in in guest house, have some rest and lunch and then, we will hike one of the most beautiful canyons in the Region: The Bouhlel Canyons. We will also watch the sunset from there. It is just magic!
At night, a traditional Djerid dinner will be waiting for us!
After the breakfast in the guest house, our local guide Ali will guide us through Tozeur's old town. The old town is rich in terms of culture and history, yet it is misknown by the travelers. From the mosques, to the museums, we will learn a lot about the region and finally, we will spend some quality time in an a charming Amazigh café in the heart of the old town.
At the end of the tour, we will visit a local store run by an active association in Djerba that promotes the hand work and the local products produced by women. We will know more about what is the Djerid region known for, before getting back to our guest house for check out.
In the afternoon, we will head back home with lots of unique memories ;-)
