Key Information

An Immersive Week in the Tadrart Rouge
Day 1

Upon arrival at Djanet airport, you’ll be welcomed by our Tuareg team and transferred by 4×4 to your first bivouac site near Tegharghart (30 min drive).

After a few hours of rest and a hearty breakfast, we begin our journey into the heart of the desert.

Our 4×4 vehicles follow the foot of the dramatic Tadrart massif. Soon, the first signs of prehistoric life appear; hidden rock shelters adorned with delicate ancient paintings.

A gentle walk through this rugged terrain, where yellow and black dunes merge with sandstone outcrops, reveals the beauty of the Sahara’s forgotten past. We set up our first bivouac between the cliffs of Tisseteka.

Dinner is shared around the fire as stars begin to glow overhead.

Day 2

After breakfast, our day begins with a drive along the canyon of In Djaren.

As we weave through its winding paths, we come across a rich gallery of rock engravings: cattle, giraffes, antelopes—remnants of a greener Sahara.

We make a stop at the towering sandstone formation known as the “Cathedral” of Tamezguida, a monumental natural structure rising out of the chaos of rocks.

By late afternoon, we arrive at the base of the majestic dunes of Moul N’Aga. These glowing walls of sand dominate the horizon like a fantasy fortress. We dine and sleep nestled in the silence of the dunes.

Day 3

As the sun rises over Moul N’Aga, we soak in a breathtaking view of jagged ridges and golden peaks.

After breakfast, we set off to the engraving site of Tin Tifellar. A 2-hour walk reveals remarkably detailed scenes of Neolithic life including herds, dancers and hunters etched in stone with poetic precision.

After lunch, our path leads into the sweeping valleys of In Tehag. Sand and cliffs stretch as far as the eye can see. Hidden beneath rock ledges, faint traces of ancient art whisper their presence.

Tonight’s bivouac is deep in this quiet, sacred landscape.

Day 4

This morning’s hike takes us between sandbanks and rocky ridges.

Along the route to Bouhadian, we discover petroglyphs on sun-warmed stone and reach a rare desert guelta; an ancient water basin still echoing with memory.

After lunch, we continue through rolling terrain to reach the spectacular erg of Tin Merzouga.

As the day ends, the dunes catch fire with deep reds and soft oranges. You are free to wander, photograph, or simply sit and marvel. Under a desert sky glittering with stars, we share stories around the fire before sleep takes us.

Day 5

We begin by tracing the dry riverbed of Oued In Djaren, where prehistoric carvings cover the canyon walls including crocodiles, hippos, and antelope from a Sahara that once teemed with life.

Our walk is long but filled with wonder. Later, the landscape shifts again. We reach Adjalati, where black and golden dunes rise in surreal contrast.

A short walk through this mesmerizing amphitheater of color leads to our final wild camp. The air is still, the sand warm beneath your feet, and the sky above immense.

We will also stop at Tegharghart to the Crying Cow engraving; an emotional farewell to the desert’s silent art.
