Higher Casbah, near the statue of Bologhine Ibn Ziri
We’ll start at 11:00 AM near the Bologhine statue and head into the upper Casbah.
As we walk through its narrow, historic streets, we’ll explore the old Citadel which was once the center of Ottoman power in Algiers.
Along the way, you’ll see a former mosque, a military club, and what’s left of an old gunpowder factory. Each spot offers a glimpse into the city’s layered past.
Halfway through the walk, we’ll stop at a local artisan’s rooftop.
From up there, you’ll get a stunning view of Algiers—white rooftops, the sea in the distance, and the city’s skyline dotted with minarets.
We’ll head down into the cozy atmosphere of a traditional Algerian home.
Around the table, you’ll taste homemade dishes like chorba, bourek, and rechta—simple recipes full of flavor and tradition.
It’s not just a meal, but a genuine welcome into local life.
After lunch, we visit the Palace of Mustapha Pacha, a stunning Ottoman-era residence turned museum.
With its ornate ceilings, zellij tilework, and inner courtyards, this palace speaks of a refined yet powerful past.
We finish our visit at Place des Martyrs, a place where Roman ruins and colonial buildings meet a lively modern square.
